TEAS test day: what to bring, ID rules and online vs in person
Bring one valid, unexpired, physical government-issued photo ID whose first and last name match your ATI registration; school IDs, work IDs and phone photos are not accepted. Leave phones, watches, calculators and drinks out of reach. Arrival, grace-period and room rules depend on your delivery format, so choose yours below.
What ID do you need for the TEAS?
ATI requires a valid (not expired), approved, physical government-issued photo ID for every format, remote and in person.
School-issued student IDs and work IDs are not accepted, and neither are photocopies or phone photos of an ID. (One ATI system-requirements page mentions a “school or government-issued ID”; ATI’s ID policy page says student IDs are not accepted, so bring a government ID.)
The first and last name on the ID must match your ATI registration. Ask ATI to correct your account name at least 48 hours before the exam.
A missing ID photo or a name mismatch is the number one reason remote exams are stopped or flagged. If ID rules are not met, the proctor stops the exam and ATI’s no refund, no retest policy applies.
Accepted examples: U.S. driver’s license; Non-driver, REAL or state ID card; Tribal identification card; U.S. passport or U.S. passport card; U.S. military or military dependent ID; Permanent resident card; U.S. visa; Foreign passport
TEAS at ATI (Remote, at home)
Proctoring: Proctored live by ATI.
Time zone: Scheduled in Central Time, within ATI’s testing hours: Monday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Tuesday to Friday 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Saturday 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The latest start you can select is 5:00 p.m. on weekdays and noon on Saturday.
Arrival: Sign in at least 30 minutes before you plan to start.
If you are late: You must be actively testing (pre-checks finished, admitted by the proctor and on at least the first Reading question) before testing hours end, or the exam is missed with no refund.
If something goes wrong: Exit the exam right away and call the TEAS at ATI proctor line, 1-844-956-2790 (exam hours only). Your answers are saved as you go, and you do not lose testing time: the clock resets to the time of the incident. After End Assessment you can resume where you left off, but you repeat the pre-checks.
Computer: A PC, Mac or iPad (Chromebooks are not supported), at least 4 GB of available RAM with a webcam, the Respondus LockDown Browser and at least 5 Mbps internet (ideally 10 or more). Do the Dry Run on the same computer, room and connection you will use.
Scores: Preliminary for 4 business days, then final.
Cost: $120, plus applicable sales tax (ATI cost page).
TEAS Online at Institution (Remote, proctored by your school)
Proctoring: Proctored by your school.
Time zone: Your school’s local time (only TEAS at ATI uses Central Time).
Arrival: Sign in at least 30 minutes before you plan to start.
If you are late: There is a 30-minute grace period after the start time. If you have not started by then, you cannot test, and the exam is not refunded or rescheduled.
If something goes wrong: Follow your school proctor’s instructions. ATI says problems with your own computer or internet are not grounds for a refund or free reschedule, so test your setup in advance.
Computer: Most schools use Proctorio in Google Chrome; some use the Respondus LockDown Browser. Ask yours which.
Scores: Scored immediately, though some schools turn off immediate viewing.
Cost: Set by the school.
TEAS at Institution (In person at a school or testing center)
Proctoring: Proctored by the school or testing center.
Time zone: The school’s local time.
Arrival: Arrive 15 to 20 minutes early.
If you are late: Students who arrive after the scheduled start time are not admitted. There is no grace period.
If something goes wrong: Raise your hand. If you need to leave your seat outside the scheduled break, the section clock keeps running and lost time cannot be made up.
Scores: Scored immediately, though some schools turn off immediate viewing.
Cost: Set by the school.
TEAS at PSI, test center (In person at a PSI testing center)
Proctoring: Run by PSI, not ATI (check-in, proctoring and technical support).
Time zone: The test center’s local time.
Arrival: Arrive at least 30 minutes before the exam start time.
If you are late: Students arriving after the exam start time are not allowed to take the TEAS.
If something goes wrong: Tell the PSI proctor. PSI runs check-in, proctoring and technical support; PSI’s number is 833-537-1330. An on-screen tutorial of up to 15 minutes does not count toward exam time.
Scores: Up to 48 hours to appear in your ATI account (help center); ATI’s PSI page says 48 to 72 hours.
Cost: $120, plus applicable sales tax (ATI cost page).
TEAS at PSI, remote (Remote through PSI’s online proctoring)
Proctoring: Run by PSI, not ATI.
Time zone: Check the time in your PSI confirmation (only TEAS at ATI uses Central Time).
Arrival: Sign in at least 30 minutes before you plan to start.
If you are late: PSI runs check-in. Follow the start-time rules in your PSI confirmation.
If something goes wrong: Contact PSI, which runs technical support for PSI exams: 833-537-1330.
Computer: 64-bit Windows 10 or 11, or macOS 14 or later; at least 8 GB of memory; a webcam and microphone; 3 Mbps or faster upload and download; no VPN or corporate firewall.
Scores: Up to 48 hours to appear in your ATI account (help center); ATI’s PSI page says 48 to 72 hours.
Cost: $120, plus applicable sales tax (ATI cost page).
Checklist: in the days before
Confirm your school accepts results from this format. Some schools do not accept remote results or exams taken outside their school.
Check that the first and last name on your ID match your ATI account exactly. Ask ATI to correct any difference at least 48 hours before the exam.
If you need accommodations, confirm they are approved. They cannot be added on exam day.
Do the Dry Run on the same computer, in the same room and on the same internet connection you will use on exam day. (TEAS at ATI)
Check your device: a PC, Mac or iPad (not a Chromebook or phone), at least 4 GB of available RAM, a webcam, the Respondus LockDown Browser and at least 5 Mbps internet. (TEAS at ATI)
Ask your school which proctoring software it uses (most use Proctorio in Google Chrome) and test it on your exam computer. (TEAS Online at Institution)
Check PSI’s requirements: 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 or macOS 14 or later, 8 GB of memory, a webcam and microphone, 3 Mbps or faster, and no VPN or corporate firewall. (TEAS at PSI, remote)
Convert your Central Time start into your own time zone (use the time helper on this page). (TEAS at ATI)
If you booked on atitesting.com and must move the date, reschedule at least 48 hours ahead. ATI charges $15 each time, and the new date must be within 30 days of the original. (TEAS at ATI, TEAS Online at Institution, TEAS at Institution)
If you must move a PSI appointment, give PSI notice at least 2 days before the test date to keep your fee. (TEAS at PSI, test center, TEAS at PSI, remote)
Checklist: what to bring
One valid, unexpired, physical government-issued photo ID. Not a school or work ID, a photocopy or a photo on your phone.
One blank 8.5 x 11 inch sheet of paper or a small dry-erase whiteboard, and two writing instruments. It must be blank when the exam starts. (TEAS at ATI, TEAS Online at Institution, TEAS at PSI, remote)
Nothing for scratch work: scratch paper is provided at in-person exams. (TEAS at Institution, TEAS at PSI, test center)
Your exam computer, set up and tested, in the room you will test in. (TEAS at ATI, TEAS Online at Institution, TEAS at PSI, remote)
Checklist: leave out of reach
Phones, smartwatches, smart glasses, calculators, earbuds and headphones. Use the built-in on-screen calculator; personal, phone and watch calculators are not allowed in any format.
Bags, outerwear, hats and sunglasses. (TEAS at Institution, TEAS at PSI, test center)
Hats, hoods, bonnets and headbands. A religious head covering, such as a hijab, is allowed without an advance request; the proctor approves it at check-in.
Drinks, including water, unless a documented medical need was approved in advance.
Tissues: at a remote exam they are not allowed on your desk or within reach, even for a cold or allergies. (TEAS at ATI, TEAS Online at Institution)
Headphones or earplugs, unless you have an approved accommodation.
Study guides and notes. The TEAS is not open book.
Checklist: room and desk
Test alone in a private, secure room. Cars, coffee shops and open library areas are not permitted. (TEAS at ATI, TEAS Online at Institution)
Clear the desk of everything except your computer, your ID and one blank sheet or small whiteboard with two writing instruments. (TEAS at ATI, TEAS Online at Institution)
Stay in the camera’s view the whole time. Leaving it is the number one reason attempts are flagged for review. (TEAS at ATI, TEAS Online at Institution)
Follow PSI’s room and check-in rules in your confirmation; PSI runs proctoring for PSI exams. (TEAS at PSI, remote)
Stay seated except during the break: outside the break the section clock keeps running. (TEAS at Institution, TEAS at PSI, test center)
Checklist: arrival and start
Sign in at least 30 minutes before your start time, and be actively testing before ATI’s testing hours end. (TEAS at ATI)
Sign in at least 30 minutes early. The grace period is 30 minutes after the start time; after that you cannot test. (TEAS Online at Institution)
Arrive 15 to 20 minutes early. Late arrivals are not admitted. (TEAS at Institution)
Arrive at least 30 minutes before the start time. Late arrivals cannot test. (TEAS at PSI, test center)
Sign in at least 30 minutes before you plan to start. (TEAS at PSI, remote)
Checklist: during the exam
Expect Reading, Math, Science, then English. Flag and change answers within a section before you submit it.
Decide in advance whether to take the optional 10-minute break after Math. It does not use testing time, and it cannot be saved for later.
Answer every question before time runs out. Unanswered questions count as incorrect, and there is no penalty for guessing.
Know what to do if something goes wrong (see your format’s summary above).
What time is a TEAS at ATI exam in my time zone?
Only TEAS at ATI exams are scheduled in Central Time; other formats use the school’s or center’s local time. The time helper on this page converts an ATI start time into your time zone, with the sign-in time, the end of testing hours and a four-hour planning window.
When will my TEAS score reach my school?
TEAS at ATI: scores stay Preliminary for 4 business days (weekends and major holidays excluded), then become final. You send the included transcript yourself from the Results tab; you can send it during Preliminary status and ATI releases it when the score is final.
TEAS at Institution and TEAS Online at Institution: scored immediately (some schools turn off immediate viewing). The included transcript goes automatically to the testing school within 2 hours.
TEAS at PSI: results can take up to 48 hours to appear (ATI help center) or 48 to 72 hours (ATI’s PSI page). The report date is the posting date. You send your included transcript yourself.
Transcripts are delivered within 2 hours after submission. Additional TEAS transcripts, or “Transcript Credits,” can be purchased for $29.99 each. One transcript is included with registration.
How early should you request accommodations?
Request accommodations before you register. They cannot be added on exam day.
TEAS at ATI: email ATI Test Security at least 30 days before you plan to test. ATI says reviews can take up to 30 days and sometimes longer.
Exams proctored by a school: the school handles accommodations. ATI cannot approve them.
TEAS at PSI: PSI reviews and approves requests, and says it responds within 48 hours.
Documentation must come from an objective, qualified professional and be dated within 2 years of the exam. High school students, or those within 2 years of graduating, may use a current IEP instead. For mental or emotional health conditions, include the DSM classification code.
Approved extra time for TEAS at ATI is 1.5 times the standard time; more must be justified in the documentation. A request does not guarantee an accommodation, and an approved one transfers to a rescheduled exam.
How do you stay calm on TEAS test day?
Final one to two weeks: Keep sleep steady. Protect a regular bedtime in the last week or two, and skip the all-nighter. One restless night before the test is not a disaster. (Moderate evidence: Correlational: in one study of college students, sleep across the month and week before a test tracked with grades, while sleep on the single night before did not.)
The week before: Write two if-then plans. “If I blank on a question, then I choose my best answer, flag it and move on.” “If I am behind a checkpoint, then I speed up on the next few questions instead of rereading.” (Moderate evidence: If-then plans had a medium-to-large average effect on reaching goals across many studies, with some caveats. The evidence is about goals in general; it has not been tested on the TEAS.)
Test morning, about two minutes: Read the reappraisal script. My heart is beating faster because my body is getting ready to perform. That energy helps me focus. I have practised this format, I know my checkpoints, and when a question is hard I choose my best answer and keep moving. (Moderate evidence: Reframing stress as useful improved math exam scores in classroom studies; a 2024 meta-analysis found a small average benefit. It will not raise every score.)
During each section: Check your pace at two points. Use the checkpoints in the pacing table. Ahead of pace? Slow down and read carefully. Behind? Answer, flag and move on. (From ATI’s rules: Arithmetic from ATI’s section times; even pacing is a guide, not a rule.)
Last minutes of each section: Never leave a blank. Unanswered questions count as incorrect and there is no penalty for guessing, so pick an answer for every question before the section closes. (From ATI’s rules: ATI rule.)
Any time you feel tense: Slow breathing, if it helps you. Breathe in slowly for about four counts and out for about six, a few times. (Optional comfort (weak evidence): Optional comfort. A randomized trial of 482 medical students found no score effect from a brief coping exercise, although students said it helped.)
If anxiety is severe or long-standing, talk to campus counseling or a licensed professional, ideally weeks before test day. Multi-session programs have better evidence than one-off tricks, and you can ask about accommodations before you register.
Pacing checkpoints
Reading: 45 questions in 55 minutes, about 73 seconds each. Checkpoints: question 15 by about minute 18, question 30 by about minute 36
Math: 38 questions in 57 minutes, about 90 seconds each. Checkpoints: question 13 by about minute 19, question 25 by about minute 37
Science: 50 questions in 60 minutes, about 72 seconds each. Checkpoints: question 17 by about minute 20, question 33 by about minute 39
English and Language Usage: 37 questions in 37 minutes, about 60 seconds each. Checkpoints: question 12 by about minute 12, question 25 by about minute 25
What do I need to bring to the TEAS?
A valid, unexpired, physical government-issued photo ID with the same first and last name as your ATI account. For a remote exam you also need your tested computer and one blank sheet of paper or a small whiteboard with two writing instruments. Scratch paper is provided at in-person exams.
What ID is accepted for the TEAS?
A valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID, such as a U.S. driver’s license, a state or REAL ID, a tribal card, a U.S. passport or passport card, a U.S. military or dependent ID, a permanent resident card, a U.S. visa or a foreign passport. School or work IDs, photocopies and phone photos are not accepted.
Can I take the TEAS at home?
Yes, if your school accepts remote results. TEAS at ATI, TEAS Online at Institution and TEAS at PSI remote are taken from home under live proctoring, with room, desk and computer rules. Some schools accept only in-person results, so check before you register.
Is it better to take the TEAS online or in person?
The exam itself is the same in every format: ATI gives every student the same sections, timing and optional break, so the choice is about logistics. Remote testing adds room, camera and computer rules; in person adds travel and strict arrival times. The deciding factor is which formats your school accepts.
What happens if I am late for the TEAS?
In person at a school, late arrivals are not admitted. At a PSI test center, arriving after the start time means you cannot test. TEAS Online at Institution allows a 30-minute grace period. For TEAS at ATI you must be actively testing before testing hours end. ATI purchases are final, so a missed start can cost the exam fee.
Can I have water during the TEAS?
No. Drinks, including water, are not allowed on your desk in any format, at home or in person, unless a documented medical need was approved in advance.
What happens if my internet disconnects during a remote TEAS?
For TEAS at ATI, exit the exam and call the proctor line at 1-844-956-2790 during exam hours. Answers are saved as you go and the clock resets to the time of the incident, so you do not lose testing time. Problems with your own computer or internet are not grounds for a refund.
When do I get my TEAS score?
School-proctored exams are scored immediately, though some schools hide results. TEAS at ATI scores stay Preliminary for 4 business days, then become final. TEAS at PSI results can take up to 48 hours to appear according to ATI’s help center, or 48 to 72 hours according to its PSI page.
